History videos worth watching end to end

History is the exception to almost everything else on this site. In most categories, runtime and padding rise together. Here they do not: the long videos in this category are, on average, denser than the short ones, and the hour-long documentary essay is frequently the honest format rather than the indulgent one.
That is because the subject actually needs the minutes. A causal chain across forty years does not compress into eight without becoming a list of dates, and the videos that try are the ones that score badly here.
So this shelf is ordered by measured value density and nothing else — not by length, and emphatically not against it. A twelve-minute video that covers a war as a sequence of events will sit below a fifty-minute one that spends its time on why the events followed each other, if the second is denser per minute. Each entry still names the point where the framing ends and the substance starts, because even a good history video usually opens with three minutes of scene-setting you can skip on a second viewing.
