Most programming roundups rank by the size of the channel. That is a reasonable proxy for production quality and a terrible proxy for whether an hour spent watching leaves you able to do something you could not do before.
The failure mode in this category is specific, and it is not padding for its own sake. It is setup. A video about a database index spends eleven minutes installing a database, seeding it, and explaining what a table is, and then covers the actual index in four. Nothing in that first eleven minutes is dishonest — it is just not what you came for, and no thumbnail will tell you the ratio.
So this shelf is ordered by measured value density: the share of the runtime that carries information rather than orientation, configuration and recap. Each entry also names the second at which the setup ends, because on a programming video that number is frequently the whole decision. A tutorial that is genuinely useful from 9:40 onward is not a bad video. It is a video you should start at 9:40.
Entries carry a difficulty level, which matters more here than the ranking does: a walkthrough pitched at someone who has never opened a terminal and a talk assuming you have shipped the thing being discussed are not competing for the same hour, and picking the wrong one is the most common way an evening disappears.
Videos are only listed here once they have been measured. Nothing is included because a channel is popular, and nothing is excluded because it is not.
