1.Acceptance
By installing the Gistil browser extension, using gistil.com, or using the Gistil app, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Gistil.
2.What Gistil is
Gistil produces an automated estimate for a YouTube video: a score, a worth-it/skim/skip call, and a timestamp where the video’s useful content starts. It is an informational tool, not a substitute for watching the video, and its output is generated by an AI model — it can be wrong.
Gistil is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. "YouTube" is a trademark of Google LLC.
3.Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create a Gistil account. If you are under 16, do not sign in or create an account. The browser extension can be used without an account. If you are using Gistil on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.
4.Accounts
The extension works without an account. If you create one (via Google sign-in through Firebase), you are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. One account is meant for one person; do not share sign-in access. You may delete your account and its data at any time — see Delete your account and our Privacy Policy §9.
5.Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer Gistil, collect its output in bulk by automated means, or attempt to circumvent the rate limits or free-tier quota of Gistil’s service;
- Use Gistil to violate YouTube’s own Terms of Service (see §10) or any applicable law;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to Gistil’s systems;
- Use automated means to create multiple accounts to evade the free-tier limits described in §7.
6.Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are not available yet. Once they are: subscriptions renew automatically until canceled; you can cancel any time and keep access through the period you already paid for; refunds, where applicable, follow the policy of the store or payment processor you purchased through (Google Play’s refund policy for purchases made inside the Android app, our web payment processor’s policy for purchases made on gistil.com).
Who sells to you. Purchases made on gistil.com and through the browser extension are sold by our payment provider acting as merchant of record. That provider, not us, is the seller for those purchases: it takes the payment, issues your receipt and invoice, and is responsible for charging and remitting VAT or sales tax where you live. Prices shown on this site include that tax — nothing is added at the checkout for your country. Purchases made inside the Android app are sold through Google Play under Google’s terms. In every case the plan is applied to your Gistil account and this agreement governs your use of the service itself.
One-off packs. Some products are a fixed number of fresh analyses bought once rather than a subscription. They do not renew, there is nothing to cancel, and they do not expire.
EU consumers — right of withdrawal. You normally have 14 days to withdraw from the purchase of a digital service. Because Gistil is made available to you immediately, at checkout you will be asked to agree to that immediate delivery and to acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once it has begun. We record that agreement with your order.
7.Free tier and fair use
Gistil’s core verdict is free. Any video Gistil has already judged is free to everyone, always. Having a new video judged draws on a free allowance that is granted once per person rather than refilled each month. To prevent abuse of that allowance, we track usage per account and keep a keyed one-way record of how much of it has been used (see our Privacy Policy §9), so the same person cannot start it over by deleting and recreating an account.
8.Intellectual property
Gistil’s scores, verdicts, summaries, and the Gistil name/logo are our property or licensed to us. The underlying video content, titles, and thumbnails belong to their respective creators and to YouTube/Google — Gistil does not claim ownership of them, does not host them, and does not make them available anywhere outside YouTube.
9.Disclaimer
Gistil’s verdicts are automated estimates generated by an AI model. They are provided "as is," without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Gistil is not professional advice of any kind. You are solely responsible for deciding what to watch.
10.YouTube Terms of Service
Gistil uses YouTube API Services. By using Gistil, you additionally agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
11.Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and the mandatory rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country of residence.
Subject to that, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Gistil is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, or for any decision you made about what to watch based on an automated verdict. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
12.Termination
You may stop using Gistil and delete your account at any time (see Delete your account). We may suspend or terminate access for violations of §5 or to comply with legal obligations.
13.Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the country in the European Union in which Gistil is operated. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-law provisions of your own country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of that country.
14.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Gistil changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
